4 MB for upload

Compress a PDF to 4 MB for upload on Android

4 MB is useful when the destination allows more room than 2 MB and the document needs that room to stay readable. It is not a universal immigration limit.

Android-first On-device by default Review before clean export

Where 4 MB often matters

  • IRCC secure account, asylum portal, and Permanent Residence Portal examples list 4 MB per file in current IRCC help.
  • Some other paths still use 2 MB, so check the account or application type before choosing 4 MB.
  • For non-IRCC work, use 4 MB only when the destination explicitly allows it.

Why larger can be better

  • Stamps, photos, and fine text can remain clearer.
  • Multi-page evidence files may not need destructive compression.
  • The result can still be strict enough for upload while preserving more detail.

PDF Ready workflow

  • Choose 4 MB in GENERAL or the relevant IRCC path.
  • Review file size and readability before clean export.
  • Keep the original in case the portal asks for a different format or target.

When not to use 4 MB

  • Do not use it for CEAC, which is a 2 MB path.
  • Do not use it when the portal says 2 MB or lower.
  • Do not assume 4 MB fixes compatibility issues unrelated to size.
